How to Qualify for Habitat Repairs

The Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity assesses individuals and families on the three following criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner with Habitat.

NEED

This program offers a variety of services at an affordable price to assist homeowners who may have difficulty  maintaining the safety and exterior appearance of their home. An assessment will be done to determine which repairs are possible.  

Ramps and railings, porch repair
Yard cleanup, trimming, landscaping
Repair windows and doors
Driveway repair
Pressure washing
Repair gutters and downspouts
Insulation for exterior pipes
Repair underpinning of mobile homes
General painting

ABILITY TO PAY

The cost for Habitat repairs is affordable because volunteers give their time and skills.  The homeowner pays the cost of materials, adjusted to a sliding scale considering number of persons in the household and your gross monthly income.  Before work begins, you sign a contract of agreement, which will include a description of the work to be done, estimated price of the service and a payment schedule determined by your monthly income.  We will help you determine if your monthly payments will jeopardize your ability to meet all your other financial obligations and expenses. You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation with a Habitat interviewer.

WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER

When approved to receive A Brush with Kindness services, you support the volunteers working at your home by whatever means you can. Friends and family may help you provide labor, lunch, drinks and snacks or some other form of assistance.  This is called “sweat equity” and is a Habitat requirement for homeowners who partner with us. The number of sweat equity hours will vary depending on the time needed to complete the work. After completion of your project, we maintain an on-going relationship with you.  We may ask your assistance to let others know about the program or to allow Habitat to share your story in print or through social media.
