How Habitat Serves

From its beginning, Habitat for Humanity has focused on shelter.  A home can serve as the foundation for a family for life.  Now more than ever, housing must be a priority. We are in the midst of an affordable housing crisis.  Every day individuals and families are forced to make impossible decisions.  Some choose to live where they can afford and end up in substandard housing, plagued by health and safety concerns. Others choose to spend too much of their income in order to live in decent housing, known as being cost burdened. This choice also comes with consequences, as families must decide what they will go without in order to pay for their housing.  It might be nutritious food or medical visits or savings for education.

We believe in a community where our neighbors will never need to face such a dilemma again.  And thanks to donors and volunteers who embrace the simple belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live, we believe that day will come.
